To maximize and expand the functionality of a 46㎡ space
Add a touch of elegance to your space with Dark Blue

Breaking through the constraints of a small space, ChiaoChiang Interior & Spatial Design skillfully demonstrated a keen sensitivity to space planning in Taipei's high-density living environment. The vertical and horizontal dimensions were properly divided to meet the homeowner's dual needs for storage functionality and flexible space utilization.

"Transparency, strong storage capabilities, and a +1 room that can adapt to different scenarios were the main goals of this renovation," the designer explained. With mutual agreement and the homeowner's full trust, the design team embarked on this fantastic journey of small-home expansion, achieving a spacious and comfortable living quality. In terms of color, the design incorporated the blue, white, and red of the Union Jack, complemented by steady grays to exude elegance.

Given that elders occasionally stay over and a quiet reading area is needed for children, the designer significantly restructured the original solid wall layout. The narrow rectangular room was replaced with a combination of half-height walls and a foyer wardrobe, separated by curtains. This space serves as a study during normal times and can be converted into a private room for the homeowner's parents when needed.

Q: What is the design concept for this project?
The design aims to break free from and transform the oppressive feeling of a compact living space. One of the core principles is to follow the light source's path to establish a bright axis within the home. The conventional TV wall was replaced with a liftable audiovisual setup, eliminating visual obstructions and expanding the shared public area. In terms of aesthetics, the design adopts harmonious proportions of color blocks, achieving a clean, pure, and understated elegance.

Q: What layout changes were made, and why?

  1. Removing the kitchen wall: This adjustment made the public area more rectangular, aligning with the homeowner's desire for a clear and bright home. Free-flowing light enhances the sense of spaciousness, and walls painted in British blue shine brilliantly under the natural light.
  2. Sealing the kitchen door leading to the balcony: This modification freed up a complete L-shaped area, enabling the installation of a sink and integrated dishwasher, thus enhancing the versatility of appliance storage.

  • Type: Apartment
  • Interior Area: 46.28㎡ (14 ping)
